My Bio

I am a self-taught artist of maternal Okinawan ancestry who uses art as storytelling to express emotions, life experiences, and the chaotic and contradictory world around us. The imagery in my art is heavily inspired by the stories of kijimuna (Okinawan wood spirits) and other nature creatures told to me by my mother and grandmother during my childhood and adolescence. All of my creatures come from the world of Boegeob (pronounced bo-ge-oh), which is a liminal, in-between space that drifts between the real world and the world of imagination and possibilities.

My primary drawing tools are graphite and colored pencils. I also occasionally paint with acrylics or watercolors. You may find some of my creatures have come to life when I sew goblins and small critters using wool and mohair.

*I have phased out the use of my old artist pen name, signing all my pieces with BOEGEOB now.
